Quick Help - How to tell if you have LSD

Have you ever looked through our Rear Differential products and wondered what LSD refers to? Products like oil will often say ‘with’ or ‘without’ LSD, so it is important to know before ordering. It actually stands for ‘Limited Slip Differential’. Here is a quick way to check without physically removing the Differential.

Now if you’re lucky, there will still be a sticker (LSD) on the Diff Housing, but over time they fall off. So try this:

  1. Jack up the rear of the vehicle
  2. With the hand brake off and out of gear spin one wheel by hand
  3. If the wheel on the opposite side spins the same way then you have a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) – assuming the differential is of course working!
  4. If the opposing wheel spins in the opposite direction then you have a “Standard or Open” differential.
