Modifications/ Equipment neccecary for a Morocco Tour

Alfred,

Since you are the one with most experiance in morocco and the yearly tours you organise. What are the modifications that would need to be done to our 4x4s to be able to go on one of the MarocAtlasGib Morocco tours? Also equipment?

For example - Tires/ CB/ Air compressor?

Im curious since id like to be well prepared for next year!!

Thanks,

To be able to do a Raid to Morocco you hAve to make sure your 4x4 vehicle is fully serviced,by that we mean BRAKES.CLUTCH,change your AXLE'S front & rear oil,AIR & OIL & CARBURANT FILTERS can be changed(depending the last time you did it) or have them in your car if needed to be changed. That also concerns to your CLUTCH.

You would also have to have spare FAN BELTS & BELT for your AIRCONDITIONER,FUSES & set of BULBS.

It is highly recomemded to carry one rear SUSPENSION & one front SUSPENSION.

TYRES are very important for the RAID,they must be in good conditions and I recommend to carry TWO SPARES on your vehicle as it would cost you over £70 for a second hand one in bad condition.ALL TERRIANS recomemded.

It is also recommended to equip 12V AIRCOMPRESSOR to your vehicle, you will need it on the sand dunes.

If your vehicle is not equiped with a WINCH then you should carry SLINGS which is recommended to pull over 3 tons of weight.

A HIGHLIFT can be very usefull on mud and sand situations.

METAL PLATES also  very usefull if you find yourself alone and stuck, this is a normal situation.

CB RADIOS are very important to be able to move on the stretch roads of the Grand Atlas safely overtaking cars and informing of the roads as we go.

Its recommended to LOG all your refueling COST & LITRES to be able to get to know your vehicles.

CAR DOCUMENTS must be on the DRIVERS name together with the INSURANCE.

A FIRST AID KIT is always helpfull.

We always carry a TENT and camping UTENCILS.We never know what can happen and we many times have camped just because we have liked the area.

Money wise its up to the individual but its wise to carry some extra just in case as we say;)

Last but not least,CAMARAS & VIDEOS,you will have loads to film.

HERE YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER ON DIFFERENT ISSUES,FIRST ONE WOULD BE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLES,AS MORE PEOPLE THE MORE YOU SPLIT UP COSTS.FERRY,CARBURANTS ECT.

THE SECOND ONE WOULD BE THE VEHICLE IF IT RUNS ON PETROL OR DIESEL.

BY MY EXPERIENCE WE DO AROUND 6000 KM USING HOTELS,CAMPSITES ECT.FOR 16 DAYS AND IT WILL COST YOU LESS THAN £900 FERRY INCLUDED.

IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO BRING LOTS OF FOOD OVER AS WE ALWAYS BUY BEFORE WE MOVE TO OUR NEXT LOCATION OR STOP AND EAT AT LOCAL RESTAURANTS ON THE WAY.

I HAVE BEEN USING MANY MAKES OF TYRES DURING MY YEARS OF OFFROADING IN MOROCCO,AS YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS NOT A VERY GOOD IDEA TO USE MUD TERRIANS ON THE DUNES SO YES THE BEST OPTION ARE THE ALL TERRIANS,BFGOODRICH ARE NO DOUBT THE BEST ON THE MARKET,NO WONDER THEY ARE THE OFFICIAL BRAND IN THE DAKAR RALLY.

YES  IT IS BETTER TO CHANGE IT ALL TO STERLING,YOU WILL GET A BETTER RATE IN MOROCCO,ALSO YOU CAN USE YOUR BANK CARD ANYWERE IN MOROCCO.
